Arsenal Women convincingly beat Real Madrid 3-0 to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Prior to last week’s first leg, the north London side had won their last five games in a row in all competitions, but they still fell to a 2-0 defeat in Spain.
However, a goal from Mariona Caldentey, in addition to a brace from Alessia Russo earned Arsenal’s victory at the Emirates Stadium and secured their pathway to the semi-final where they will meet eight-time winners Lyon.

Arsenal struggled to to cope with the wet conditions at the in the Spanish capital in the first leg last week. The game was played at a muddy Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano (the stadium used by Real Madrid Femenino and Real Madrid Castilla) and goals from Linda Caicedo and Athena del Castillo secured the first-leg victory for Real Madrid.
Arsenal played the second leg in front of 22,517 at the Emirates Stadium, a new record for a UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final in the UK.
Renee Slegers’s side controlled most of the first half but the goals came in the second half. Russo, who named the player of the match, was twice denied the chance to score a hat-trick by an offside flag.
