Arsenal’s fight against the doubters was strengthened in their dramatic comeback against Wolfsburg on Sunday.
The belief that has carried them this season was present once again in Germany during their Champions League semi-final first leg.
Now, after a 2-2 draw, they head to a sold out Emirates as they seek a first European title since 2007.
It is a credit to the mentality that manager Jonas Eidevall has installed at Arsenal this season. Even without key players Kim Little, Vivianne Miedema, Beth Mead and Leah Williamson, Arsenal came back from conceding two quick first-half goals to rescue the tie.
Arsenal are wrought by injuries and today the patched-together defence will need to be faultless, with none of the same mistakes as the first leg.
Arsenal cannot do anything about the long-term injuries that have depleted their squad — their bench options are limited and the starting line-up will be mainly all of their fit players. But they can, as they have all season, use grit, determination and a seemingly bulletproof resilience to get them to their first European final in well over a decade.
