England captain Leah Williamson has had surgery following the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that she suffered last month.
The Arsenal defender was forced off during the Women’s Super League match between Arsenal and Manchester United on April 19.
Williamson will miss the 2023 World Cup due to the injury, but confirmed that she had undergone a procedure ahead of a period of rehabilitation.
The 26-year-old said on Instagram: “Photos in reverse order because today is hopefully the last day that we look back.”
Arsenal confirmed to The Athletic that the operation had gone as planned.

Williamson’s Instagram post came just hours after Brighton & Hove Albion defender Jorja Fox revealed on social media that she had also ruptured her ACL.
The 19-year-old, who is on loan from Chelsea, said: “Devastated to announce that I’ve ruptured my ACL.
“This is just another bump in my journey and I know I’m surrounded by the best support and care to make me a stronger player and person for when I return to the pitch.”
