COMPETITION INSIGHTS
GOLD FOR EMILY AS CAMERON AND ADAM TRADE WORLD RECORDS
The excitement continued at the World Championships as the third day of competition offered up medals and world records in Kazan.
Emily Seebohm won gold in the 100m backstroke with Mie Nielsen in third while Rūta Meilutytė took silver in the 100m breaststroke and Paul Biedermann came back roaring on the final length to snatch bronze in the 200m freestyle.
Adam Peaty and Cameron van der Burgh continue their fantastic head to head, trading world records in the 50m breaststroke.
Emily Seebohm won silver at the last World Championships in 2013 and at the 2012 Olympics but in Russia she went one better and came back on the second length to claim gold in 58.26.
The Australian was delighted with the result, saying: “I’ve worked really hard to deal with the pressure of being in lane four and everything that comes with it. I went in there, I smiled, I laughed, I had fun with the girls and that’s what I forgot in London.”
Mie Nielsen, of Denmark, added to her long roll-call of medals – including a European title shared with Katinka Hosszú – with bronze in 58.86, a new Danish record.
