arena’s Elite Team swimmers broke 6 Championship Records and 1 World Record on the first two days of the European Short Course Championships in Netanya, Israel. Leading the charge (as usual) is The Iron Lady from Hungary, Katinka Hosszú, who set a new 400 IM world mark just a half-hour into the Championships. In the evening’s final, she couldn’t match her morning swim of 4:19.46, but still won comfortably with a fast 4:19.75. Katinka went on to break 3 CRs on the second day, winning 100 back in a time of 55.42, and leading the 100 IM prelims and semis with times of 57.52 in the morning and 57.49 in the evening.

First gold medal winner of the Championships was Poland’s Radosław Kawęcki, who set a new CR of 1:48.33 with his 200 backstroke victory. “Yesterday was really my day, I had a feeling it was gonna be a great day from the early morning, I had a good sleep and breakfast,” he said afterwards. “I also think that those Haribo jelly bears I ate in the morning also helped, I slept like a bear in between the races.” Radek leads the field going into tonight’s 100 back final.
