This college hoops season took off with quite a bit of chaos as Final Four favorites and preseason No. 1 LSU and preseason No. 2 UConn lost their respective season openers to then-No. 20 Colorado and then-unranked NC State.
But it’s November. No one wins or loses a national title in November. There’s no reason to panic over a single loss. (That’s a good mantra to remember.)
And then came Week 2. Iowa, another popular preseason Final Four pick, picked up its first loss to unranked Kansas State. And elsewhere, the cracks for these top teams seemed to widen.
Angel Reese was benched in the second half of the Tigers’ win over Kent State for a “coach’s decision” and did not play in Sunday’s win against Southeastern Louisiana. Azzi Fudd missed two games after suffering a non-contact knee injury in practice. Caitlin Clark looked human for the first time in a long time in the loss to the Wildcats.
Now, we enter Week 3. And yes, it is still November (we fact-checked that).
But could it be time to start panicking? At least a bit?
That’s what the panic meter is here to help you decide. How troubling are these recent developments? Are they harbingers of what’s to come? Or does everyone just need to relax?
