Slovakian tennis star Anna Karolina Schmiedlova has revealed she is expecting her first child with her partner, fellow professional player Lukas Klein. The three-time WTA titlist and Olympic semifinalist shared the joyful news with her followers on Instagram, offering an explanation for her absence from the tour since February.
“Hello, I just wanted to let you know that the reason I haven’t been playing tournaments or been part of the BJKC team in April is because of my pregnancy,” Schmiedlova, 30, wrote in her announcement. “It’s a personal matter for me, but I wanted to share this to avoid any confusion in the coming months. My partner and I are very happy and excited.”
Schmiedlova reached a career-high WTA ranking of No. 26 in 2015 and is currently ranked No. 158. She captured WTA titles in Katowice and Bucharest in 2015, followed by another in Bogota in 2018. Her partner, 27-year-old Lukas Klein, is also Slovakian and currently sits at No. 173 in the ATP rankings. He is three years younger than Schmiedlova.
