Angelique Kerber gave a shout-out to Venus Williams for still playing at 43 but noted she doesn’t see herself playing pro tennis at that age. Williams, who turned 43 this month, is still active and competing during this year’s grass season.
Kerber, who is 35 years old, hasn’t played since last year’s Wimbledon as she was on maternity leave. After giving birth in February, Kerber is currently in the process of preparing to return at the start of the 2024 season in Australia.
During an interview with BILD, Kerber was asked if she could follow Williams in having such a long career. “Hats off to what she is doing. She still has that passion. But still playing at 43 isn’t exactly my plan. Then probably more as a coach,” Kerber told BILD.
Kerber won’t play as long as Williams
At 43, Kerber doesn’t plan to be playing pro tennis but there is a chance that she will still be involved in tennis in some different ways. BILD also asked Kerber if she wanted to become a coach one day.
“It’s still a bit early for such considerations, as my goals are different now. I’ll see what my role in tennis will look like later, but probably not as an active player at 43,” Kerber said….
