Angel Reese is trademarking the nickname “Bayou Barbie,” one which she is embracing in her dominant first season for No. 3 LSU women’s basketball.
The star sophomore, who transferred from Maryland ahead of this season, has led the Tigers (22-0) to the best start in program history. She has a double-double in every game so far, most recently in LSU’s 82-77 overtime win Thursday against Georgia.
Both Reese’s mother and her NIL representative confirmed the news of her trademark application to The Daily Advertiser.
“Everybody in Baton Rouge calls me the Bayou Barbie,” Reese said after Thursday’s win. “My nails say ‘Bayou Barbie’ on them. So yea, that’s me. I got a trademark, so…
“I’m Bayou Barbie.”
Billboards around the Tigers’ Baton Rouge home feature the Tigers’ new star. Fans have started to show up in the stands with her nickname plastered on signs as Reese has continued to dominate the floor for the Tigers.
With the trademark, Reese will be able to put the moniker on merchandise and capitalize off the popularity under the NCAA’s name, image and likeness policy.
