Angel City signs Casey Phair, 16-year-old phenom who made World Cup history

Angel City has signed 16-year-old Casey Phair through the 2026 season, the club announced Thursday. At 16 years and 26 days old, Phair became the youngest player to appear in a FIFA World Cup over the summer.

She is also the youngest player in Angel City’s history and joins the club via the NWSL’s Under-18 entry mechanism, which allows players under 18 years old to enter the league and sign guaranteed contracts.

“It feels like a dream come true,” Phair said in a statement. “The first time I came to Los Angeles was last September. I trained with Angel City and fell in love with the culture and L.A. All of the players were super welcoming and I really enjoyed everything about the city. I’m excited to start with the team, and play at BMO Stadium in front of all of the fans.”

Phair made history as the youngest player appearing the Women’s World Cup when she made her debut for South Korea in a 2-0 loss to Colombia on July 25. She was also the first mixed-heritage player to be called up to a South Korean World Cup team.
