Mark Parsons is the new sporting director of Angel City FC, the club announced on Wednesday.

Parsons is a longtime veteran of the NWSL, having been involved in the league since its inaugural season in 2013. Most of his career to date, however, has been as a coach.

Now, he is tasked with a wider oversight of arguably the NWSL’s most high-profile club – and that task includes hiring a head coach. His hiring fills the recently vacated position of general manager at the club.

“The history of my decisions is to join places that you can build with people and — with ownership — something special,” Parsons told The Equalizer. “And so, the role is a perfect time for me to move into this. Why? Because I get to have a broader impact across the whole sporting organization.
