Angel City FC has removed the interim tag from coach Becki Tweed’s title and hired her permanently, the team announced Thursday.
The Athletic first reported last week that Tweed would remain with the club.
“I’m really proud to be staying with Angel City,” Tweed said in a statement. “I am most excited to have the opportunity to pick up where we left off. We aren’t starting over. We are continuing to build and have unfinished business. We have created a strong foundation, and now our expectations are higher.”
Tweed took over Angel City FC in June following the team’s dismissal of Freya Coombe after a rocky start to the season (through June 14, the team only had two wins, three draws and six losses). Under Tweed as interim manager, Angel City made the playoffs, only dropping one game as a loss and adding six wins and four draws. While ACFC didn’t advance out of the quarterfinals against OL Reign, the second-half campaign was good enough to earn Tweed a nomination for NWSL coach of the year — the first time an interim coach has ever made the shortlist.
