Angel City FC has signed French midfielder Amandine Henry on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth year, the club announced Thursday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Henry was most recently with French club Lyon, where she has spent 14 years total in her club career.
- This is Henry’s second signing in the NWSL; her first was a two-year stint with the Portland Thorns from 2016 to 2017 when she won a championship with the team in 2017. The Thorns reportedly parted ways with Henry after her contract was up in order to make salary cap space.
- Henry recently posted to her social media about parting ways with Lyon, writing that she asked them to release her from her contract early after Lyon was eliminated by Chelsea in the Champions League. Henry said in her post that Lyon told her they would not be playing her or letting her end her career at the club, but were keeping her on the roster for appearances’ sake with opponents and that she wanted to correct any assumptions that she was in a hurry to leave.
- Angel City is 10th in the standings, with a 2-4-3 record and a minus-5 goal differential.
