Annet Kontaveit is set to compete in an invitational tournament in Luxembourg next month, according to Estonian publication ERR. Kontaveit, 27, retired from pro tennis after this year’s Wimbledon due to a chronic back issue.
In Luxembourg, Kontaveit will be competing against other well-known tennis names that are also retired. At the Luxembourg Ladis Tennis Masters, Kontaveit will compete against Kim Clijsters, Lucie Safarova, Daniela Hantuchova, Monica Puig, Andrea Petkovic, Pauline Parmentier and Mandy Minella.
A total prize money has been set at €110,000. The winner will go home with €50k in its pocket, while the runner-up will collect €20k.
Kontaveit set to play in two exhibitions
Just days after Wimbledon ended, it was announced that Kontaveit would meet three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur in an exhibition match in Tallinn later this year.
The match is scheduled to take place on November 11th at Tondiraba Ice Hall. At the time, Kontaveit said she would need some practice before taking on Jabeur in front of the Estonian crowd. “I will definitely have to [pick up the racket again]…
