Andy Roddick has come to Iga Swiatek’s defense as the American tennis legend says he would not even call it “a doping case” since he thinks it was nothing else but an unfortunate situation.
Last Thursday, it came to light that one of samples the Pole provided in August came back as positive for trimetazidine (TMZ). After doing everything she could to determine from where it came, the world No. 2 came to the conclusion that non-prescribed melatonin pills – which she was using to treat “sleep and jet lag issues” – were contaminated with a banned substance.
The ITIA accepted the explanation and Swiatek’s provisional suspension was ended after 22 days. On November 27th, she accepted a one-month ban, with 22 days already served. But just like in the Jannik Sinner case, some didn’t believe the explanation and started throwing out conspiracy theories and double standard claims.
After reading about some of the reactions on social media, Roddick explained on his podcast why he feels there is zero reason to blame Swiatek of anything.
