Andy Roddick, Jim Courier weigh in on Cori Gauff’s French Open chances

American tennis legends Jim Courier and Andy Roddick are rooting for Cori Gauff to make a strong French Open run. Gauff, 19, made her first Grand Slam final at the French Open last year before losing to Iga Swiatek. Going into this year’s French Open, Gauff’s preparation hasn’t been the greatest since she has picked up a couple of early exits and a 3-3 record on clay.

However, Gauff has been enjoying success in doubles this clay season, making back-to-back finals with Jessica Pegula in Madrid and Rome. “I feel Coco deserves to be in that discussion, given her run there last year.

Obviously, she’s having some difficulties in that singles court right now that, hopefully, she can solve in Paris,” Courier said on Tennis Channel. Roddick added: “The doubles court has been a safe harbor for her to keep confidence.

Hopefully, that will give her another good run in Paris.”

Before the start of the clay season, Gauff acknowledged her expectations were high as the American said she was hoping to “have an even better clay season than last year.
