Andy Murray thinks the response that Serena Williams received during her 2022 US Open farewell told everything that you needed to know the American’s greatness and influence. Just 20 days before the start of the 2022 US Open, Williams announced that would be the last tournament of her pro tennis career.
When the US Open started, all the spotlight and attention was on Williams. When Williams took on Danka Kovinic in the US Open first round, a record-breaking 29,402 fans featured the American’s evening session match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Throughout the entire US US Open, fellow players were paying tribute to Williams, with many calling the American their idol and some even credited the former 23-time Grand Slam champion for them picking up a racket to play tennis.
