For some media and insiders, Daniil Medvedev was the heir of the Big Three, but now he already seems to be overtaken by the new young generation that is advancing.
The former tennis player Andrea Petkovic spoke out on this topic in an episode of Rennae Stubbs’ podcast, explaining what the Russian tennis player’s main problem is.
“Medvedev is in the worst position, he is a big star but he has always been number two or three. First there was Novak Djokovic, now there are Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz and this is a problem. In prime time they will always be there while Daniil will go into the background. Even if he will be number one in the world, as long as Sinner or Alcaraz are there, he will always be next. This is all a shame,” she explained.
Medvedev will now be in Miami to defend the title he won last year. The Russian started his title defense attempt at the Miami Open on the right foot. The Russian player defeated Marton Fucsovics 6-4 6-2 to reach the third round in which he will now face the British player Cameron Norrie who defeated Flavio Cobolli after a long battle.
