Ana Ivanovic is set to play competitive tennis for the first time in eight years! The retired WTA star and mother of three boys has committed to participating in the 2024 Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters, an invitational tournament scheduled from October 17th to October 20th.
The former world No.1 played her final professional match in the first round of the 2016 US Open, losing in straight sets to Denisa Allertova. In late December of that year, after being sidelined with an injury since August, Ivanovic announced her retirement. Since then, the 2008 Roland Garros champion has distanced herself from tennis, focusing on other projects, including her organic and sustainable skincare brand. However, the Serb will soon pick up her racket again to compete alongside other retired former Top 10 players.
Andrea Petkovic of Germany and Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium have also been confirmed for the Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters, with additional players in the eight-woman field to be announced later. Ivanovic and Flipkens will be making their debut at the event. Petkovic was the runner-up last year, losing the final to Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit, who has recently announced pregnancy.
