Club América Femenil may have said goodbye to midfielder Scarlett Camberos, but the team had plenty of fire power this week in Liga MX Femenil. Hosting Chivas de Guadalajara, América stunned Alicia Cervantes and company with a 2-0 shutout win.
Sabrina Enciso struck at the top of the box for the opening tally in the 62nd minute, firing between two defenders and past Chivas goalkeeper Blanca Félix. The defender, who has been with Club América since last year’s Apertura season, looked like another striker.
Andrea Pereira tacked on an insurance goal in the 68th minute, after Club América was awarded a penalty kick. The converted penalty was her third goal of the season.
América has now jumped over Chivas in the standings and sits in the second-place spot with 26 points. Chivas, too, has 26 points, but trails on goal differential (+30 to Chivas’ +16).
