Amelie Mauresmo’s ex-partner gets 4 months in prison for domestic abuse

Amelie Mauresmo‘s soon-to-be-ex-wife Marie-Benedicte Hurel received a four-month prison sentence for harassment, as per the decision of the court in Bayonne, a city in Southwestern France. The outcome of the trial, which was held behind closed doors, reveals a disturbing family situation between the two women who were together since 2014.

The 44-year-old Mauresmo, the former world No.1 tennis player and current director of Roland Garros, married Hurel about seven years into their relationship, in July 2021. Last year, the retired athlete initiated divorce proceedings and that’s when the harassment started.

Mauresmo has described her life since filing for divorce as a living hell, marked by humiliations, blackmail, and insults, often communicated through text messages. Notably, the prosecution had initially sought a ten-month suspended prison sentence for Hurel. Hurel’s lawyer denied the claims, characterized Mauresmo’s complaint as “artificial,” arguing that the text messages cited were not evidence of harassment but rather discussions related to day-to-day matters.

Besides the four-month prison sentence, the court’s ruling includes a prohibition for Hurel to contact Mauresmo for two years, as well as to go near her or her new partner’s home. However, Hurel was…
