Amazing news! WTA introduces paid maternity leave for players

The WTA, in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), has introduced the PIF WTA Maternity Fund Program, a groundbreaking initiative that provides paid maternity leave and fertility support to WTA players. This is the first time in women’s sports history that comprehensive family-planning benefits are available to professional, self-employed athletes. The initiative ensures that players have better conditions balancing their careers and motherhood, setting a new standard for athlete support.

What the program offers

Eligible WTA players will receive:

  • Up to 12 months of paid maternity leave, with everyone receiving the same amount, irrespective of their ranking.
  • Grants for fertility treatments to support family planning.
  • Access to specialized health support, including physical assessments, mental health resources, and nutritional guidance.
