Amarissa Kiara Toth has released a statement after facing a major backlash, claiming that Zhang Shuai “made trouble for herself” in their Budapest match. On Tuesday, Zhang retired her Budapest first-round match against Toth after believing she was robbed and suffering a panic attack on the court.

The scenes from the match went viral as many WTA players sent their support to Zhang and called out Toth over her stunning act of unsportsmanship.“I didn’t understand why she made such a fuss out of it, that she wanted to overrule the judge’s decision.

I don’t understand why she didn’t accept it, but she made trouble for herself,” Toth said in a statement.

What happened in the Toth-Zhang match?

At 5-5, 15/15, on Zhang’s serve, the Chinese’s ball that seemed to be in was called out.

Zhang couldn’t believe the call and she had a long discussion with the chair umpire before she requested the supervisor to come to the court. But after one more point played, Toth approached the mark and cleared it with her shoes.
