Amanda Serrano leads the charge for change when she puts featherweight gold on the line against Danila Ramos at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida on October 27. The fight, which will air on DAZN, marks the first time that a women’s professional boxing match has been scheduled for 12 three-minute rounds since 2007.
Serrano (45-2-1) is a legend in the women’s game, having won a record seven world titles in as many weight classes. While the undisputed featherweight champ’s WBC title will not be at stake due to the governing body not supporting three-minute rounds for women in boxing, Serrano refuses to let politics affect what is a historic moment.
“For me personally, I don’t want to go back to two minutes,” Serrano told Sky Sports. “It makes no sense to go backwards, so hopefully other women are on board, they love the idea, they’ve been asking for it for many years now, and hopefully, this is the first step.”
Ramos (12-2-) has faced the likes of Elhem Mekhaled and Katharina Thanderz, losing to them both. The top contender for Serrano’s WBO belt beat former multi-time title contender Brenda Karen Carabajal to earn her shot at gold.
