CARIBE ROYALE ORLANDO, FLORIDA —Since turning pro, Amanda Serrano has made it a goal to change women’s boxing for the better. Teaming with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, she has done that. “The Real Deal” upped the ante in her most recent fight, as the undisputed featherweight champion competed in the first 12 three-minute women’s boxing fight since 2007, beating Danila Ramos via unanimous decision (120-108, 120-108, 120-108 scores across the board).
In the movie Field of Dreams, there’s a famous quote: “If you build it, he will come.” Well, if you support women’s boxing, it will deliver. That was the case in the Caribe Royale in Orlando when Serrano and Ramos clashed. Proudly waving the Puerto Rican flag, Serrano’s (46-2-1) fans were on their feet from the opening bell until the last.
Serrano stalked Ramos (13-3) in the first round, pushing her towards the ropes. Unlike previous fights, she was cool, calm, and collected, as she didn’t have to push too hard with the extra round. Round two had Serrano land hard hooks. Counter shots were the name of the game for Serrano, as she nullified Ramos’ offense with combinations.
