Amanda Anisimova confirms comeback after taking mental health break from tennis

Former world No 21 Amanda Anisimova is ready to return after taking a mental health break as the American is set to compete at the ASB Classic in Auckland. Anisimova, 22, announced in early May that she was stepping away from pro tennis to address her mental health and the burnout she was dealing with.

This week, the ASB Classic in Auckland announced Anisimova as a main draw wildcard recipient. The Auckland event will be taking place between January 01-07, which means Anisimova will make her comeback in the first week of the new season.

In January, Anisimova will be making her third Auckland appearance. Anisimova’s Auckland debut came in 2019, when she reached the quarterfinal before losing to Viktoria Hruncakova. The following year, Anisimova returned to Auckland and this time went a step further as she was beaten by Serena Williams in the semifinal.

The Auckland organizers offered a main draw wildcard to Anisimova

Anisimova, currently ranked at No 367 in the world, recently started indicating on social media that she started practicing and training again. Then, Anisimova signed up for the Australian Open.
