Boxing has seen several failed drug tests over the last few months. There was the Conor Benn egg drama, and Dillian Whyte got recently removed from a fight against Anthony Joshua after failing multiple tests. One of the top women’s boxers can now be added to the mix.
Rumors circulated over the past few days that Alycia Baumgardner, the undisputed super featherweight champion, tested positive for two illegal substances. Taken by the Drug Free Sport, her failed tests happened before a fight and revealed one month after.
Ranked high on The Sporting News’ women’s pound-for-pound rankings, Baumgardner was rumored to fight Amanda Serrano at one point and rival Mikayla Mayer in a rematch. Now, her fight future may be in doubt.
Here is everything we know so far about Baumgarder’s situation and expected next steps. The Sporting News will continue to provide updates as they become available.
