WTA’s Alize Cornet and Daria Saville have called out the ITF after Mikael Ymer stunningly received an 18-month ban from tennis after missing three out-of-competition doping tests. After the announcement was made, Ymer claimed that an independent tribunal cleared him of any wrongdoing in 2022 June – but the ITF then appealed that ruling and he still received a suspension.
After taking some time to reflect and analyze what happened, Ymer released a lengthy message on his social media, in which he explained why he feels wrongfully sanctioned. “I don’t understand why the ITF keeps harassing players like that.
The same thing happened to me and I got cleared by the independent tribunal. It was still the worst 6 months of my career. Thank God the ITF didn’t appeal. I can’t even imagine how you must feel… Be strong,” Cornet wrote.
