Swiss ice hockey forward Alina Müller signed a one-year deal with the Boston Pride of the PHF, a person with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed to The Athletic. It’s expected the signing will be announced in the coming days. Here’s what you need to know:
- Müller is one of the top players in the women’s game. She received 29 percent of the vote in The Athletic’s women’s hockey player poll on the best player outside North America.
- Müller won a bronze medal for Team Switzerland at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. She was one of the top 50 players ranked by The Athletic ahead of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
- The 25-year-old is coming off another stellar NCAA season with 27 goals and 60 points in 38 games at Northeastern.
Backstory
Müller was named a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, was a top-10 finalist in all five of her seasons at Northeastern and led her team to the Final Four for the third straight year.
She is the current record holder for the second-fastest hat trick in Olympics history. At this year’s Women’s World Hockey Championship, Müller recorded four goals and six assists in seven games played.
