In the eyes of Alex Singer, a crucial part of being the general manager of a National Women’s Soccer League team is taking accountability. The buck stops with you.

“I will always take accountability for what’s happening with this team,” Singer, the general manager of the Houston Dash, told The Equalizer this week, days after the decision to fire head coach Sam Laity.

Singer acknowledges that she needs to be better, too.

“Yeah, there are definitely things that I could have done better in the last year,” Singer said. “I think it would be crazy for anybody to say that it’s gone perfectly. It hasn’t. But you know, there’s ebbs and flows in sport, in this industry and in this league.”

It has been just over a year since Singer stepped into her role as the first-ever general manager of the Dash. Even in that short period of time, it’s fair to say there have been significant highs and frustrating lows.
