Reporting from Stadium Australia, in Sydney, Australia.
Matildas mania continues to sweep across the country as the Australian women’s national team prepares to play in the biggest match in the history of the nation’s football.
Stadium Australia will be rocking on Wednesday night when the Matildas look to make history by earning a spot in the World Cup final if they can knock out England. The two Commonwealth nations have a long colonialism history.
It’s not just about beating ‘The Poms’ on the pitch. There is a strong cultural significance that comes with one upping England and knocking the Lionesses out of the World Cup.
“There’s probably a lot of English people that would love to see us knocked out by England,” Mackenzie Arnold told media at Australia’s press conference on Tuesday. “But I think there’s more Australians that would love to see England knocked out by us.”
