Who’s next? A conference rival? An SEC powerhouse?
On Wednesday, the University of Nebraska volleyball team entertained a record-setting crowd of 92,003 at Memorial Stadium, defeating Omaha in a sweep. It was an event dubbed “Volleyball Day in Nebraska,” an attempt in Lincoln to set a world record for a women’s sporting event.
Mission accomplished. Wednesday broke the old record of 91,648, when Barcelona faced Wolfsburg in a UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinal in April 2022. And that happened at Camp Nou, the largest stadium in Europe.

Wednesday was amazing. But now, we wait.
Who will try to one-up the Cornhuskers? Whichever program tries, know that it will be another win for women’s sports.
Topping this feat would be a basic numbers game, yes, but in many ways, it would be much more. It would take the combination of a great program, passionate fans and a venue big enough to hold a crowd approaching 100,000.

It would be fun to see if a program steps up to the challenge of trying to duplicate the magic…
