Aces star A’ja Wilson out Friday vs. Wings, enters concussion protocol

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson will not play in Friday night’s game against the Dallas Wings after being placed in concussion protocol, the team announced Friday.

Wilson had previously been listed as doubtful after suffering a head injury during Las Vegas’ 97-89 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday night. Despite the downgrade Friday — Wilson must remain in concussion protocol for at least 48 hours — Wilson could be available for Sunday evening’s game against the Phoenix Mercury. The Aces will then travel to play the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday.

Wilson, a three-time WNBA MVP, suffered the injury with 1:17 remaining in the third quarter of Wednesday’s loss and did not return. “She was bleeding,” Aces coach Becky Hammon said after the game. “She’s going to go to the doctor tomorrow and see what’s going on. I don’t have anything beyond that.”

The WNBA implemented its concussion policy in 2012, and reviews it periodically “in order to keep it current and consistent with the evolving science of concussion management,” per the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
