Las Vegas Aces guard Riquna Williams was arrested Tuesday on domestic violence charges against her spouse and subsequently released from custody Wednesday.
Williams was charged with three felony counts of strangulation, one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, one felony count of coercion and four misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, according to records made public by the Clark County (Las Vegas) Detention Center.
Williams was previously arrested in Florida in April 2019 due to charges stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident in December 2018. At the time, Williams was under contract with the Los Angeles Sparks and continued to play for the team until the WNBA elected to suspend her for 10 games during the 2019 regular season. In 2020, Florida prosecutors dropped the charges of burglary and assault with a firearm.
The domestic violence policy in the WNBA collective bargaining agreement allows for the league to conduct an investigation independent of the legal process. However, if a player is acquitted after a trial in a criminal proceeding, they are no longer allowed to be subject to disciplinary penalties.
