Almost halfway through the 2023 WNBA season, home attendance for the defending champion Las Vegas Aces has increased significantly from last year, as it has for the New York Liberty and Indiana Fever.
The Aces saw an average of 5,606 fans come through their doors each night in 2022 – a figure that has inflated to 8,708 per night this summer. This vaults them past the Minnesota Lynx as the franchise with the third-highest home attendance in the league.
Similarly, the New York Liberty now have the fifth-best home attendance, up from eighth, with 7,543 fans per game. This follows blockbuster free agent signings in the offseason, which brought them former MVPs Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones, as well as All-Star guard Courtney Vandersloot.
The Indiana Fever, which have dwelled near the bottom of league standings for the last several years, have seen the most dramatic increase in home court attendance, up from 1,775 last season to 5,106 this year. They are revitalized with a new coach in Christie Sides, No. 1 draft pick Aliyah Boston, who is an early candidate for Rookie of the Year, and the return of sharpshooting veteran point guard Erica Wheeler.
