ORLANDO, Fla. – Team Pineapple 16 Black players found Day 2 of the AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships to be especially sweet on Tuesday. A three-match win streak and a real shot at the Championship Division can do that to a squad.
One day after going 2-1 in the first round of pool play, Team Pineapple of Angola, Ind., powered to a 2-0 finish in the top pool on Day 2 to grab the No. 1 seed going into Wednesday’s third round of pool play of the 16 Open division at the Orange County Convention Center.
Team Pineapple beat Wildfire 16N Corey of Florida in three sets, and then swept MVA 16-1 of Idaho, 25-22, 25-21, in the final match of the second round. MVA 16-1 had stunned Adidas KIVA 16 Red of Louisville, the original No. 1 seed, on Day 1.
It has been an impressive run for Team Pineapple, which has not won a major title this season, but does have multiple high finishes.
