A Sunday conversation with Brian Urlacher

The highest-profile Bears player in recent memory has not been much use to the team of late. That’s because linebacker Brian Urlacher has been retired for five years. But his presence is all over Chicago as a spokesman for a hair restoration company, and he is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the first time in February. 

The Athletic caught up with Urlacher to discuss what he’s up to and the current state of the Bears.

POMPEI: What are you doing these days?

URLACHER: I am living in Arizona, chasing my kids (daughters Riley and Pamela and son Kennedy) around. I drive them everywhere. I play a little golf when they are in school. I try to squeeze in working out. Hanging out with my wife and family, that’s really it.

So you are working out. Can you make a comeback? The Bears could use you.

Oh yeah. I was playing in a softball game this summer and I pulled my hamstring running to first base. But I did beat the throw out. I sacrificed my hammy to be safe.

Are you working out hard?

No, no. I just try not to get too heavy. If I can stay around 250, I’m happy. I’ve been able to do that and still have been able to eat whatever I want.
