By now we are used to Matteo Berrettini’s withdrawing from tournaments, but the situation is becoming dramatic from tournament to tournament. The Italian tennis player could also skip the American mini tour on hard-courts, when the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 will be played in Indian Wells and Miami.

The hypothesis became increasingly concrete as soon as the complete and official entry list of the BNP Paribas Open was published. In fact, in the Californian tournament, the Italian tennis player is not present at the end of the list with the possibility of rightfully entering the main draw through the protected ranking.

Under this heading there will be the young Canadian Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic and the Spanish champion Rafael Nadal. The only other way for Berrettini to participate is to receive a wild card from the organizers but, at this moment, all indications are that the 27-year-old will miss the Sunshine Doubles.

An endless dark period for the former Wimbledon winner. The Italian recently shared through his Instagram profile how he continues to work on the pitch, together with the new coach Francisco Roig, and in the gym to get back into physical shape as soon as possible.
