Atlanta resident Betty Lindberg is truly an inspiration. If you ever find yourself wondering if you’re ‘too old’ to start running, think again. Betty started running in her 60s, and now runs 6 days a week.
She regularly takes part in local 5K races, and dominates the Atlanta running scene. “It is Betty’s world and we are all living in it!” said Rich Kenah, CEO of Atlanta Track Club.
Betty Lindberg, World Record Holder
Betty is back in the news this spring as she has completed another 5k race in under an hour. She finished the Publix Atlanta 5K on February 25th in a time of 59:06.
She made headlines last year as she broke the World Record for 5k in the 95-99 Age Group. The previous record, held by another Betty, had been 1:28:36 and was set in 2017. Lindberg broke this record by 30 minutes, finishing the Atlanta Peachtree Marathon Weekend 5K in a time of 55:48.
But Betty doesn’t see herself as an inspirational figure, or that she’s doing anything extraordinary by lacing up her running shoes and hitting the pavement. “I am glad that people are inspired by me, but it is not my aim to go out there and do that,” she told local media.
