With the 2025 NWSL season looming, there is much excitement to see what this year’s rookie class brings to the pitch. Some rookies enter their first season with many expectations, while other rookies go unnoticed. Here, we’ll look at the underrated rookies who might surprise fans this season.
Trinity Armstrong (San Diego Wave)
With the departure of Naomi Girma, San Diego needs strength and steadiness in its backline. Trinity Armstrong provides just that. Her tenure with the Tar Heels, although short, displayed a massive impact. She started in all 21 appearances and played every minute of the NCAA tournament, which helped the Tar Heels win their 23rd national title.
Macey Hodge (Angel City)
Although listed as a midfielder, Hodge is a versatile player who can attack and defend. During her time with Mississippi State, she tallied the most appearances (97) and was named squad captain in her second season.
