5-time Coach of the Year predicted to replace Maryland’s Kevin Willard

The Maryland Terrapins have had quite an eventful few weeks, starting with comments from head coach Kevin Willard that seemingly put the program on blast. In fact, it appeared that Willard had mentally checked out as head coach before his team even went on a run. Despite his actions, Maryland managed to make it all the way to the Sweet Sixteen.

No matter the backlash Willard faced, he expressed no regrets about stirring the pot with his recent remarks. After the loss to Florida, Willard made a comment about the next steps in his coaching career:

“I don’t know what I’m doing,” Willard said. “I haven’t talked to my agent, my wife. I made a promise to this team. Just focus on this team, and that’s what I’ve done. I haven’t talked to anyone. I have an agent; I’m sure he’s talking to people. That’s what agents like to do.”

A couple of days later, the Terrapins lost their head coach to Villanova. However, it seems Willard was headed to Villanova long before the season ended. Now, the search for the next Terrapin head coach is underway.
