The 2025 French Open is in full swing after fourth-round action began in both the men’s and women’s singles tournaments on Sunday.
On the men’s side, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, the No. 2 seed, took on American Ben Shelton with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. Alcaraz, who has dominated on clay courts and won his first French Open title in 2024, got some resistance from Shelton but ultimately prevailed in four sets.
While Shelton fell, two other Americans advanced to the quarterfinals. First, No. 12 seed Tommy Paul took care of Alexei Popyrin in straight sets. Later in the day, No. 15 seed Frances Tiafoe did the same, dispatching Daniel Altmaier. In the process, Paul and Tiafoe became the first American men to reach the quarterfinals since Andre Agassi back in 2003.
