Washington Spirit have enjoyed a renaissance this year in the NWSL. Under new coach Jonatan Giraldez, the Spirit have gone from a disappointing eighth-place finish to tussling at the top of the table. Although Orlando Pride has snatched the NWSL shield, there is still a chance for Michelle Kang’s club to have a successful season.
It’s been a fun year to support Washington Spirit. They boast the second-most goals scored in the NWSL but have also been extremely porous at the back, keeping just six clean sheets all season. This chaotic nature makes them an entertaining, if not unpredictable watch.
With just a single game to go this season, Giraldez will be keen to get another win on the board. Erratic performances have seen the club from the district of Columbia slip up twice in their last five games. The Spaniard will hope his side can get a good win on the final day to give them extra momentum heading into the playoffs.
