2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova breaks Venus Williams’ Wimbledon feat

World No 42 Marketa Vondrousova has surpassed Venus Williams as the lowest-ranked Wimbledon champion, per OptaAce. Vondrousova, who was unseeded at this year’s Wimbledon, ousted No 6 seed Ons Jabeur 6-4 6-4 in the final at The Championships.

In 2007, Williams was ranked at No 31 when she won Wimbledon. Now, 24-year-old Vondrousova is officially holding the new record for the lowest-ranked champion at The All England Club. When the WTA rankings get updated on Monday, Vondrousova will be enjoying a career-high ranking of No 10 in the world.

Going into the final, Jabeur was considered the favorite and many expected the Tunisian to make a big breakthrough after losing two Grand Slam finals in 2022.
